Alexander Garabato

Alexander Garabato. Alex is one of the remaining 3,800 indigenous Eperãrã Síapidaarã.  He teaches Information Technology, Indigenous ethics, and spirituality at the Wounaan Nonam school in Chachajo on the Rio San Juan, where he lives. He speaks Pedee (his mother tongue), Woun Meu, and Spanish. Alex is currently studying IT at the Catholic University of Manizales. 

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Alexander stepped up to help lead his school as the interim academic coordinator and helped guide his community through the incredible challenges of complete isolation as they struggle thru serious issues of food insecurity and lake of medicine and healthcare.
