Guardians of the Heart of the World

The Arhauco are one of “the four brothers” of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta’s indigenous cultures.
It is an honor and a privilege for Repurpose-IT to work with this very traditional culture.
Following three trips and 7 months of planning, in January 2020, Repurpose-IT conducted teacher training for nearly all of the teachers of the very remote Bunkiwimake school district.

This implementation added a lot of STEM content, notably 83 PhET simulations from the University of Colorado.

During the teacher training we had a lecture from our friend, the notable Arhuaco documentary producer Amado Villafana, who donated his many films for use on the laptops. It’s our goal that every Arhuaco student throughout their territory will go to a school equipped with Repurpose-IT laptops so they may see these magnificant films.

Although our implementation has been interrupted due to the covid-19 pandemic, we continue working with the teachers virtually while the schools remain closed and outsiders are forbidden from entering the territory.
