Caregivers to Heart of the World

Our work with the Wiwa boarding school Zharneka in Atshintukua, the Wiwa capital, brought art to the forefront.

We first visited in September 2018 and for collaboration with school administration, teachers, students, and parents.
Blessings and guidance from Mama Vangelio Gil cleared our camino with remarkable results.

In April 2019, the team met with Rector Hector Mindiola and Coordinator Jose Crespo for in depth planning.

In July 2019, we held teacher training with the teachers from the boarding school and each of the remote schools.
We donated laptops and upgraded 8 existing computers with with open source educational software and content.

The artistic aspect of the project evolved with spectacular results.
The team, led by Sergio and Delfina, brought to life a mural created with a Repurpose-IT laptop and the program Krita.
The resulting mural of a Saga (female shaman in the Wiwa culture) is in the school’s central courtyard.
